Eddie Izzard was born in Aden (Yemen) in 1962 with her birth name, Edward John Izzard. What a serious name for someone who enjoys rambling whimsical monologues! She had lived a normal life in Ireland until her mother died when she was only 6 years old. To this day, Eddie Izzard believes that everything she achieves in life is for her mother – to make her proud or to somehow bring her back.

By the time Eddie had entered university at the University of Sheffield, she had already begun to toy with the idea of comedic performances. She decided to perform her comedy acts in the streets of London, in which she definitely succeeded. People would stop to watch her shows, and in turn, this boosted Eddie’s belief in herself.

The rest is history because 35 years later, Eddie Izzard has starred in 8 standup comedy tours from Live at the Ambassadors (1993) to Wunderbar (2022). She has also achieved massive success as an actress. She has received two Primetime Emmy Awards for her past tour, Dress to Kill. She has also been nominated for a Tony Award for her Broadway performance in A Day in the Death of Joe Egg.

The Guardian has said many great things about her, and most recently said, “Out of the bounds of standup, Izzard stays a seductive performer, pacing the narration with no sense of rush and bringing a delicate physical comedy to the stage.”
